I had a 20GB iPod and was using a Griffin iTalk to record my classes. When I got my new iPod, I wanted to see if there was anything better to use for recording. Now, my needs aren't great (just lectures for the most part), so I don't require a high-end product. The XtremeMac MicroMemo is a good product that covers my needs (and then some). It has a mic and speaker (2 separate pieces). Having a separate mic allows you to use another mic with a 3.5mm plug (should you wish). It has both low and high quality recording modes (8-bit and 16-bit respectively). I typically use the low setting, which takes up less space. The mic is flexible, so you can aim it wherever and it doesn't pick up drive noise from the iPod (a big problem w/the iTalk on my old iPod).
A thing that bugs me is the lack of a carrying pouch or case for the mic and speaker. I worry about the mic sitting loose in my backpack (even in a separate pocket). Another drag is you can't charge your iPod while the MicroMemo is attached - a bummer since the MicroMemo runs off your iPod's battery.
Overall, I think it's a really good product (over 100 hours recorded since Xmas).
