(More customer reviews)The DVR snap-on is a handy accessory to record video or audio from other sources. It does what it claims but don't expect too much from it. The contents inside the package are very simple, the DVR snap-on adapter base and one set of cable and that's all you will get. For the cable, one end is the 3.5mm jack to be connected to the DVR snap-on base, the other end are 3-RCA male connectors (Yellow/Red/White). The DVR snap-on doesn't not support s-video, RBG component video or HDMI connection. However since RCA type jacks can be found on almost all A/V equipments so you shouldn't have any trouble using DVR snap-on to record from most TV, VCR, camcorder, digital camera, DVD player, satellite or cable box etc. Connect to the color-coded RCA female sockets, then you are good to go - record, pause, stop and playback. It's just that easy and I think that's a very good thing. If you want to use it like a DVR to record daily TV then your probably need to think twice because the DVR snap-on is not made for that purpose. Yes you can record live TV but it doesn't have a built-in TV guide or scheduler. The main function of DVR snap-on is a portable recording accessory so you can transfer contents quick and easy from other sources like VCR, camera or camcorder to your Archos.
There is also a DC-in port on the snap-on base which is quite a surprise. You can actually use DVR snap-on to charge your Archos (I believe it only works for Archos 5). To do that you will need an external A/C adapter. Archos warns you on their manual "Use Archos AC adapter Only! Buy from Us!" LOL, Any A/C adapter with ~5V output and a fitting connector should work just fine.
And be careful who you are purchasing from. Some Amazon sellers are ridiculous, $99 or more? The retail price is only $79!
