(More customer reviews)We ordered two of these for our kids. On the plus side they haven't broken, and seem to work all right. Built in microphone is a nice touch. Tuning on/off in to an external hi-Fi amplifier seems to have very little "thunk" which is nice. I expect this might vary unit-unit though.
This player is bulky, such that you would guess that it would have an FM tuner, or larger high density display. Alas it has neither. The navigation is terrible, as others have pointed out. It should be intuitive given all the similar products out there. You will likely need the instructions to figure out most features...even simple navigation.
Product is branded Sylvania, but all information is available from Curtis. For this unit, there is no firmware update available online. Mine are running CD722_2053__v1.5 (2010/08/23). I have had some issues with a "Object not Found!" error when recording...it's intermittent.
These apparently will not play back .wav files, which means you can't playback its own microphone recordings without a PC. This is a bummer. I've tried with the wav files it records as well as ones from my PC.
I've owned a couple of the Sansa products, which are similar, and they beat the pants off this. The Sansa clip that I have is great, similarly priced, exchanging voice recording for an FM tuner.
